Param
Pujya Yogiji Maharaj used to say that the youth
were his heart. When I was about 10 years old
I bumped into Yogiji Maharaj on the steps at the
entrance of the mandir in Sokhda. When his eyes
met mine, I felt a current go through my body
and from that instance I have loved him.
Brahmaswaroop Yogiji Maharaj took great interest
in the welfare of youth, so that they could study
well and simultaneously become virtuous through
satsang. By bringing devotion into their lives,
Yogiji Maharaj ensured that the youth lived their
lives in the best way possible. For this reason
Yogiji Maharaj initiated numerous weekly satsang
sabhas in 1952 especially for the youth. |

After
completing my S.S.C. in 1957, I came to Vallabh
Vidyanagar for my further education. During my
vacation I spent 4 days with Yogiji Maharaj at
Anandpura village and I felt exceptional affection
for Him. Consequently, I firmly resolved that
I would live only to please Yogiji Maharaj. |

When I gained admission to college, Bapa instructed
me to do daily puja, prayer and apply the tilak-chandlo
to my forehead. Two months later, he instructed
me to initiate a weekly Sunday satsang sabha for
youth in college. We began this in 1957 and for
the first two months there were only four of us:
Gordhan Bhagat, Shanubhai (later became Principle
of Commerce College), Vitthaldas and myself. |

At
that time, Vidyanagar consisted only of the University
campus i.e. colleges, hostels and dining halls
– there was no township. Many students from nearby
villages would therefore go home for the weekend.
While some of them may have liked to come to sabha,
they could not attend. When Yogiji Maharaj came
to know of this, He asked us to re-schedule the
sabha to Thursdays.
At that time we were in Pre-Science and were staying
at the New Three Hostel. We therefore began the
Thursday sabha in a hostel room with 12 students
attending – and following Yogiji Maharaj’s guidance
would read the Vachnamrut, Swami ni Vato and the
newsletters. During
our F.Y.BSc we moved into Royal Hostel and continued
the weekly youth sabha there. Yogiji Maharaj wanted
to do so much for the youth, that he would ask
us to personally remind everyone of the Thursday
sabha. To do this we used to cycle to every hostel
to remind the boys. We also helped them with any
issues they had with dining, accommodation, admissions
etc. As a result those students became closer
and began to take great interest in the weekly
youth sabha. Within two years, the number attending
rose to 30 youths. |
