Gurusabha History

With the daily morning and evening ãrtis and satsang sabhãs, the numbers attending began to rise and there was not enough space in the room! When following Yogiji Mahãrãj’s aagna we did not think about numbers as we were most concerned with simply following his instruction. Although we started with 4 boys, Bãpã asked us to gather more, so we grew gradually from 10 to 15 to 25 until eventually there were almost 400 youths! We then moved the sabha to Ram Krishna Hall.
During 1956 -1957, we came into contact with Pujya Dãdu Kãkã as Yogiji Mahãrãj wished him to guide us in various youth work. Pujya Dãdukãkã was greatly inspirational and brought us closer to understanding the greatness of Yogiji Mahãrãj. The construction of the Chhatrãlaya was underway and we undertook this seva wholeheartedly.

Once on the occasion of Shãstriji Mahãrãj’s centenary celebrations, Yogiji Mahãrãj asked us to gather 250 youths, prepare them and bring them ready for sevã. He was greatly pleased when the youths were gathered, all dressed in the same crisp white attire and eager to do sevã.

The weekly sabhã went from strength to strength and it was visited by so many elders who were the pillars of the satsang. Our bond with Yogiji Mahãrãj was such that a number of us wanted to become sadhus. On the occasion of Yogiji Mahãrãj’s 75th birthday we presented a proposal to the Trust Committee asking for permission to hold the celebrations in Vidyanagar and take complete responsibility for its organization including funding. The Trust Committee accepted our proposal but when I informed Yogiji Mahãrãj, he initially said no! Yogiji Mahãrãj said he would only accept this on the condition that 11 of us became sadhus. We were pleased as we were eager to take this step. The celebrations were exceptional and were attended by numerous dignitaries.

Yogiji Mahãrãj had asked me to meet him 5 days prior to the celebration (on 13th May) at Shãhibaug Mandir. Here at 5.00am he initiated me as a sadhu but without the saffron clothes. After the celebrations and according to Yogiji Mahãrãj’s ãgnã we left the Chhãtrãlaya.
And also according to His ãgnã, I was joined by Shantibhai, Ratibhai, Sandandbhai and the other bhaiyo.

With the Guru-sabhã, Yogiji Mahãrãj directed us onto our path and gave all the youths the values, virtues and devotion that were necessary to lead exceptional lives. Today, Guru-sabhã members are spread all over the world and they have shone in every field. Being free from vices, honest and virtuous they have been successful both materially and spiritually! Today, in the Trust Committees and in other key positions, it is the Guru-sabhã members that have become the pillars of the satsang both in India and abroad.
